SAMMY HAGAR Raises $20,000 For Victims Of Hurricane Katrina
September 15, 2005Launch Radio Networks reports: Sammy Hagar did what he does best last weekend to raise money for hurricane relief efforts. He took to the stage on Saturday (September 10) for a quickly assembled free performance with the house band at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where attendees donated more than $20,000. Hagar said, "I want to thank the TNT house band for learning a bunch of my songs overnight and to the Cabo Wabo fans who stood in line to support this event in the brutally hot weather. To see the Cabo Wabo fill up with people wanting to do their part for the cause made this night very special. I've played many nights here — this one will stand out. The important thing, though, is that we got to the magic number $20K — not bad for a little bar in Cabo."
All the money raised at the show went to Americares, the non-profit organization that provides both immediate and long-term aid to people in disaster areas around the world. More information is available at americares.org.
Hagar is glad to help out whenever he's able, but he said that he's never picked a cause with the idea of putting himself in the spotlight. "To me, it stinks a little bit of trying to do something that makes you look cool and you look good, and no — you gotta do it for the right reason," he said. "You do it for those people. It's all about trying to do something for somebody else when you do that. That's just gotta be the reason you do it."
